The "Hilma" movie at Gene Siskel Film Center, Chicago ....
Another wonderful WITASWAN event......
What a totally wonderful day yesterday--and movie at Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago--once again participating in the annual WITASWAN (Women in the Audience Supporting Women Artists Now) event in Chicago with the showing of the move Hilma, thanks the irrepressible Jan Lisa Huttner, who did her usual magic from New York! (She used to live in the neighborhood, just a mere few steps away!) Speaking of New York, when we were there to see Molly's work in the big Outsider art show in Chelsea in 2019, Project Onward's wonderful Robyn Jablonski strongly suggested that the three of us visit the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum to see the Hilma af Klint show (which attracted more visitors to that iconic museum than any other in its 60-year history) and we were all totally mesmerized and completely hooked on her as soon as we began viewing the show! (She pre-dated Kandinsky in the world of abstraction but never got the work out to any kind of audience and was belittled in many ways.) Between Robyn, Molly and me we photographed every single work in the entire show that filled the museum. So when the three of us saw the feature film yesterday about her life and work (which was totally poignant and incredibly well done) we knew the work backwards and forwards!! Thanks, Jan, for getting us to participate yesterday!! And I can never thank Robyn enough for getting us to accompany her to see the Hilma show at the Guggenheim on that fateful day in Januray, 2019!
